On May 19, 2025, the LCME voted to eliminate Element 3.3 (diversity programs and partnerships)

The provisions of recently passed and emerging legislation in some states affect the ability of LCME-accredited medical education programs to meet the current expectations of accreditation Element 3.3 (diversity programs and partnerships). As a result, on May 19, 2025, the LCME voted to eliminate Element 3.3 for two related reasons: to remove any real or perceived conflict between the requirements of Element 3.3 and state laws and to ensure that there is a single set of accreditation expectations with which all schools, regardless of their location and current legislative environment, must comply. All relevant documents on the LCME website for academic years 2025-26 and 2026-27 will be revised and reposted to reflect this change.  Schools with existing Element 3.3 citations, as well as those currently preparing accreditation documents for submission in academic year 2025-26, will be contacted and will not be required to provide any information related to Element 3.3.
