The Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) Secretariat staff is available by appointment to meet with representatives from schools who seek guidance on issues unique to their school. These in-person meetings range from 30 to 60 minutes depending on the complexity of the discussion.

LCME Service Recognition Reception and Award Ceremony
The Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) will host the Service Recognition Reception and Award Ceremony to honor the LCME volunteer community; survey team members, secretaries, anc chairs; and members of the LCME whose significant and continued efforts make the work of the LCME possible.

The Evolving Roles of Medical School Deans: Structural and Functional Accreditation Challenges
Over the past 15 years, the number of LCME-accredited medical education programs in the US has increased by 20%. The organizational and governance structures of the medical schools that administer these programs, like those of their more well-established peers, reflect the profound changes in the academic health care environment over this period and the corresponding changes in the relationships among the medical school, its sponsoring organizations, and its clinical affiliates. Competition in health care services has driven health system consolidation and the retreat of universities from the financial risks of medical care delivery and training. These changes, in turn, have led to the re-definition and re- calibration of the roles, responsibilities, and authority of the dean in the traditional academic medicine mission domains of education, research, clinical care, and community engagement. This session will:1) summarize national data on the roles and authority of medical school deans with reference to their relationships with sponsoring organizations, including universities and health systems, and with non-sponsoring clinical affiliates required for medical student training; 2) categorize differences in the roles and authority of US medical school deans across mission areas; and 3) link these differences to challenges and approaches to addressing challenges related to specific LCME accreditation standards and elements.
