The LCME Strategic Visioning Initiative: In the Midst of the Marathon’s Middle Miles

In this session, the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME®) Secretariat will update the academic medicine community on the LCME’s strategic visioning process. The objectives of this session are to summarize and synthesize the work done by the LCME, its subcommittees, and its advisory groups over the past year; discuss the rationale for and obtain input on proposed changes to accreditation standards related to medical school organizational structure and leadership, faculty, educational resources, curriculum management, student assessment, student services, and the learning environment; and discuss and obtain input on possible revisions to the institutional self-study and peer review components of the accreditation process.

Learning Objectives:

• Review progress and updates on the LCME’s strategic visioning initiative.
• Summarize proposed changes to LCME standards and elements and discuss how the accreditation process is being reviewed as part of the visioning initiative.
• Understand how advisory group input has been considered and used by the LCME during this process.
